“This so-called deal is not a solution — it’s a stopgap that leaves millions of working Americans anxious, uncertain, and still struggling to afford healthcare. These are not just numbers. These are our friends, our neighbors, our loved ones who may face dire circumstances solely due to decisions made in Washington.
Approximately 19,000 residents in the 7th Congressional District stand to see their health care costs spike if tax credits disappear. Families of four earning $64,000 could face premium hikes of up to 243 percent. A 60-year-old couple earning $82,800 may see an increase of more than $13,000 annually.
While Washington Republicans play politics with people’s lives, families in Chicago and across the 7th Congressional District are choosing between rent, groceries, and medical care. This crisis was created by reckless partisanship — and this deal does nothing to restore trust or stability.
It’s time for leadership that puts people before politics. Democrats must keep fighting for working families, fair wages, and affordable healthcare — not temporary fixes or hollow promises.”
