A Community Mandate for Progress
Inside the Illinois State Board of Elections today, State Representative La Shawn K. Ford officially filed more than 15,000 nominating petition signatures — nearly triple the requirement — to appear on the ballot for Congress in Illinois’ 7th Congressional District. This filing marks a decisive milestone in a campaign built on community strength, and it comes with the full support and endorsement of Congressman Danny K. Davis, who has entrusted Ford to continue the legacy of service and advocacy that has defined IL-07 for decades.
For Ford, this moment is much bigger than paperwork or political calendar milestones — it’s a clear signal to the district that the people are ready to move forward together.
“I’m running for Congress because too many families in our district still struggle to meet their basic needs,” Ford said. “We need a representative who will carry forward the strength and commitment that Congressman Davis has shown—fighting every day to protect health care, defend our rights, and expand opportunity for every neighborhood in the 7th.”
A Legacy of Leadership — Endorsed to Carry It Forward
As Congressman Danny K. Davis prepares to retire after a distinguished career representing the 7th District, he has placed his full support behind La Shawn Ford — signaling his trust in Ford’s character, leadership, and commitment to the people who call this community home.
Congressman Davis has called Ford “a fighter for the forgotten — someone who understands our communities because he has lived their struggles and delivered real solutions.”
That continuity matters. In a district where:
✅ 244,000+ residents rely on Medicaid
✅ 64,000 households depend on SNAP
✅ Affordable housing, public safety, and economic equity remain urgent priorities
The stakes are too high for inexperience or uncertainty.
Proven Results for the People of IL-07
Over 19 years in the Illinois General Assembly, Ford has:
• Passed more than 117 bills into law supporting working families
• Led efforts to expand Medicaid access, including HIV screening and opioid treatment
• Secured millions for schools, parks, libraries, and community development
• Fought to lower child care costs and increase college affordability
• Championed job opportunities and record-sealing reforms to ensure everyone has a path forward
• Advanced civil rights and voting rights protections reflecting our district’s values
His advocacy is not theoretical — it is lived, measurable, and rooted in compassion.
A Vision for the Future: One District, One Destiny
IL-07 is one of the most diverse and dynamic districts in America — from Austin to Garfield Park, South Shore to West Haven, Oak Park to Berwyn and beyond. Ford knows that progress only happens when every neighborhood rises together.
His campaign is focused on:
✅ Health care that is accessible and affordable
✅ Economic opportunity that lifts every block and every family
✅ Safe and thriving communities for our children
✅ Housing that keeps families rooted, not pushed out
✅ A politics that honors dignity, unity, and justice
“We deserve a representative who shows up — not just when the cameras are on — but every day, in every neighborhood, working side-by-side with the people,” Ford said.
Powered by Volunteers, Built by Community
Faced with a crowded field of competitors, Ford’s early strength in filing more than 15,000 signatures demonstrates a campaign with deep roots, real momentum, and broad support.
Neighbors stepped up. Community organizations stepped in. People stood shoulder-to-shoulder — believing in a future we can build together.
This Is Our Moment
The road ahead is focused and urgent — but we are moving with strength, unity, and purpose.
